Discovering the Charms of Northern Osaka: A Historic Zoo and Scenic Hiking Spots
Nestled in the northern part of Osaka, this charming zoo has been a beloved local attraction since its opening in April 1957, boasting a rich history of 67 years. Remarkably, admission is free, making it an ideal destination for families and animal enthusiasts. The zoo's picturesque setting at the foot of Osaka's mountains adds to its allure, providing a natural and serene environment for visitors.
Covering approximately 3,000 square meters with a total site area of around 4,500 square meters, this zoo is the second smallest in Japan among those affiliated with the Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums, second only to Nishiyama Zoo in Sabae City.
The zoo is home to a variety of fascinating animals, including:
- Wombats
- Red-necked Wallabies (Bennett's Wallabies)
- Alpacas
- Emus
The wombats, in particular, are the stars of the zoo, drawing crowds with their charming antics. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a pony feeding experience (for a fee), which is especially popular with young children.
